TED - Ideas worth Spreading

This conference is one of my favourites, its my dream to attend one in california. If you are familiar with TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), its a place where ingenius ideas are discussed or presented.

The recent obvious hot topics are health and safety... how do we deal with viruses like H1N1? Solving the drinking water problem in africa? Cloud Computing & its impact on the internet... how much of yourself are you willing to put online?

The ideas are ingenious and when presented will give you a feeling... why isnt it implemented - yet? simple answer would be commercialisation or capitalism. Ever wondered why we arent seeing many hydrogen powered cars on the road yet? its very safe to use, commercially viable and saves the earth as the end result is water! the reason why is simple, you would kill the oil industry in the process... which government on earth has the guts to do that now? none.

hybrids are gaining ground, highest usage of such cars is in california. with high fuel prices finally consumers are considering alternatives. My favourite hybrid is the Honda Insight & Toyota Prius. Two cars which i will own next year... being a car fan all my life, sports cars et all... i have changed to hybrids in a step to do what i can to save the earth, not for me but for my children and grand children who will have to face the concequences of our actions.

water is another area where governments & organisations need to put in alot more effort into. desalination plants, recycling waste water are just a few ways to make effective use of resources. what about usage? are we doing enough to save water?

did you know that atleast 40% of all electricity produced are not used? why? because we havent figured out a way to store electricity and then use them when needed. like a rechargable battery of sorts. wind power, hydro power, solar power et all are pointless if we cannot produce enough, store and then distribute. i'm sure leading minds are working on this, i hope to see them in my life time.

if you visit ted.com, please check out these... its amazing: Pattie Maes - sixth sense, Micheal Pritchard - water filter & Tim Berners-Lee - Cloud Computing.

I hope this website influences you in the right direction, just it has done so for me. Good Luck!
