The 10,000 Hour Rule

If you have heard of the 10,000 hour rule, then you also must have heard that it is considered the most important recipe for success.

The argument still continues on this topic but the majority do agree that it has a profound influence on us. So what is the 10,000 Hour Rule? and Why is it so important?

This study was started by Anders Ericsson, who by far, is the best known cognitive scientist. His study was further complemented by Author Malcolm Gladwell in his book 'The Outliers'.

When you look at every great business man, he or she have been doing what they do for a long time, in other words they have established themselves, they have perfected their art. The perfection is earned the hard way, through trial and error, sweat and blood, hard work and long hours. This relentless focus makes their work a habit, which over time becomes so easy, it is called Natural Talent!

So the question on my mind is - Can anyone be successful if they learn to follow the 10,000 hour rule? Can you re-program your 'mind set'?

The answer is YES! and the solution is simple. It's about practicing a specific task for at least 10,000 hours in order to be successful in it. Practice makes perfect as the saying goes but when I ask people about what made them successful, they say - I was lucky! That makes me ask another question - Does luck play a role in success? Even more than the 10,000 hour rule?

Gladwell, says NO to luck & I second that. Luck does not play a role, its more of perseverance, practice, effort and timing. When you believe in something, its just a matter of time till it becomes true. God, Religion, Prophets, Mentors, Guru's et all, asks you to Believe in something greater than you!

When you use this to study your own life... it is so true. Every thing that you have - good or bad, successful or unsuccessful, lazy or proactive all has the influence of this rule. The jury is still out there but for me I am convinced that the 10,000 Hour rule is the single most important recipe for success!
